What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga was founded by Martial Arts expert and Taoist Yoga Teacher Paulie Zink in the late 1970s. It is a practice of Yoga with the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The asanas or postures are held for longer periods of time usually between 1-5 minutes depending on your practice.
The TCM element of Yin Yoga focuses on the balance of yin and yang, and seeks to create harmony between the two. Yin yoga works to affect the deep fascia of the body, releasing tension and helping to restore balance by balancing the energy channels (Meridians). Through deep release, yin yoga can bring about relaxation of the body and mind, leading to improved sleep and reduced anxiety. With regular practice, yin yoga can have profound effects on the body and mind, creating a calmer and more balanced life.
